Mist hanging over the margins today, with a whisper of wind from the WSW with the glass holding level. On Wirral Lake, work shallow cover and weed edges first. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Wirral Lake belongs to Queens County, New Brunswick. Country round the bank runs to rolling bush. It measures about 30 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Shoreline comes to about 2.8 km, small enough to learn in a day. Supplies mean a trip to Grand Bay-Westfield, 24 km off. The big place round here is Dartmouth, 245 km distant. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Public occurrence data for Queens County names yellow perch, alewife and pumpkinseed. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Wirral Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The seasonal spread runs -10°C to 18°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. Climate averages put the opening at about mid April and the closing near early December. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Wirral Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Moose Lake sits 6.2 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Wirral Lake in what we hold.
