A half-covered sky tonight, with the water lying quiet with the barometer flat. On Whisky Lake, work points where shallow meets deep first. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Whisky Lake is set in Fraser Valley Regional District, British Columbia. The ground around here is lake country bush. It is pond-in-a-field scale, with the far bank a short lob away. On size it sits at the modest end of our Fraser Valley Regional District list. The town to know is Mount Currie, 32 km out. Beyond it, Pemberton at 36 km and Whistler at 41 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Fish documented in Fraser Valley Regional District include white sturgeon, sockeye salmon, Coho salmon and Chum salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Whisky Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Long-term averages put August at about 12°C and January near -7°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Expect Whisky Lake to follow that timing.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. You can camp 1.1 km off, which suits an early start. There are toilets 1.2 km off. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lizzie Lake at 1.2 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Whisky Lake are worth checking on the day.
