An even grey lid over the water, with an easy breeze from the ENE and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Limit Lake should be near bays that hold the day's warmth. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Limit Lake is one of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako listings for British Columbia. Lake country bush runs right down to the water. With some 25 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 2.6 km, small enough to learn in a day. Nearest town is Vanderhoof, 44 km off. It is 469 km to Kamloops, the nearest city. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name sockeye salmon, Coho salmon, Chinook salmon and pink salmon. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Anyone new to Limit Lake should walk it once before setting up.
The year swings from about -11°C in January to roughly 14°C in July. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid April. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Limit Lake.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Failing this one, try Dorman Lake, 5 km away. Nothing on Limit Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
