A sharp, clear morning turning into a bright day, with a gentle ripple from the SE with the barometer flat. On Newton Lake, work sheltered bays and points first. A long productive spell runs night into morning. Make the first hour count and build on it. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Newton Lake sits in County of Barrhead No. 11, out in Alberta. Height above sea level is 654 metres. With some 74 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. With about 5.0 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Barrhead sits 21 km from here and is the nearest stop. Westlock lies 27 km off, Morinville another 42 km. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Depth figures are not published for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in County of Barrhead No. 11 include northern pike, white sucker and brook trout. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Newton Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -15°C on the long-run figures. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Newton Lake rarely departs from it.
Public data does not answer the access question here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Part of this sits inside or beside Newton Lake Natural Area, so read the notices. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. For a change of water, Cranes Lake is 5.4 km distant. What applies at Newton Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
