A cloudless sky and strong light today, with just enough SE wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. On Majeau Lake, work any hard bottom among the soft first. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Look for Majeau Lake in the Lac Ste. Anne County part of Alberta. The ground round it is lake country bush. At roughly 15.09 sq km it ranks among the larger waters in the region. The perimeter is close to 32 km, and wind can be flat in one arm and rough in the next. On our Lac Ste. Anne County list it sits near the top for size. The nearest town is Barrhead, 25 km away. Westlock is 45 km and Mayerthorpe 47 km. The county line runs close by, so rules can change within a short drive.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Lac Ste. Anne County list northern pike, walleye, white sucker, lake whitefish and yellow perch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Majeau Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -14°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. On average, late April opens the water and mid November closes it again. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Majeau Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
We hold no note on access for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Lac la Nonne is 7.6 km distant. What applies at Majeau Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
