Dull, settled light over the water, with enough SSW wind to stack food downwind and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at Lake Elizabeth along reed fringes and open pockets. The day holds up well from afternoon into evening. Work the productive water thoroughly. The season is young; the warm corners hold the life.

Lake Elizabeth stands in Gannawarra, Victoria. It lies 73 metres above sea level. With some 90 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 3.5 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. The nearest town is Kerang, 9.9 km away. The big place round here is Bendigo, 125 km distant. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Fish reported in the area, according to open records, include perch, tench, common carp and goldfish. That is what has been logged nearby, not a stocking list, so check local rules before you plan around any one species. On Lake Elizabeth the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Average temperature peaks around 24°C in February and bottoms out near 9°C in July. Winter is simply the pleasant end of an unbroken season. Winter here is cool and quiet, and often the most comfortable time out. October and November fish well as the water warms. The season on Lake Elizabeth rarely departs from it.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Part of this sits inside or beside Lake Elizabeth Wildlife Reserve (hunting), so read the notices. Carp respond to sweetcorn or boilies fished patiently on the bottom near feeding areas. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Salt Lake is 4.3 km off. Rules at Lake Elizabeth are worth checking on the day.
