A grey, even sky over the water, with a faint N drift with a softening glass. On Brown Pond, work the quiet corner out of the wind first. A long productive spell runs the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Out in Caledonia County, Vermont, sits Brown Pond. The country here is mixed forest. This is a pocket water of some 16 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Compared with other Vermont water on our list, it sits high. Lyndonville is the closest place, 14 miles off. Sherbrooke sits 47 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Reported across Caledonia County: rainbow trout, brook trout and pumpkinseed. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Brown Pond fishes better once you know its edges.
Climate normals give 64°F for July and 12°F for January. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Expect Brown Pond to follow that timing.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Launch at Bald Hill Pond Access, half a mile from the water. A carry of half a mile from the nearest parking is the price of fishing here. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Sawdust Pond at 0.6 miles is the sensible second choice. Check the current arrangement for Brown Pond.
