No direct sun expected today, with an easy breeze from the NNW and pressure leaking away. Expect most activity at Marl Pond around the overhang and the water beneath it. The day holds up well from night into morning. Work the productive water thoroughly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Marl Pond lies within the bounds of Caledonia County, Vermont. It lies 1,585 feet above sea level. At roughly 10 acres, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Start from Lyndonville, 12 miles down the road. For a city, Sherbrooke is 49 miles off. In the same area: Duck Pond about 0.7 miles, Vail Pond near enough 0.7 miles, Blake Pond about 1.1 miles, Bean Pond near enough 1.2 miles and Dolloff Ponds about 1.5 miles. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Species logged across Caledonia County include rainbow trout, brook trout, pumpkinseed and white sucker. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Marl Pond that means starting tight and working out.
Climate records put July near 65°F and January near 13°F. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. The season between ice runs from about late April to early December. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Marl Pond runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Parking sits 0.9 miles out, which makes for a walk with tackle. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Duck Pond, 0.7 miles away. Treat Marl Pond as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
