Lake Texoma, Texas: Fishing Spots and Seasons

• Overview

  The Grayson County end of Texas holds Lake Texoma. It lies 620 feet above sea level. This is big water, about 92.8 sq miles, and in a wind it behaves like a small sea. There is far more edge than the surface area suggests, thanks to the arms. It is the biggest water on our Grayson County list. Sherwood Shores at 1.4 miles is the nearest place to stop. Then Pottsboro, 9.3 miles, and Preston, 9.8 miles. A county boundary sits nearby, which can matter for local access rules.

• Where to Fish on Lake Texoma

  Survey data gives a maximum of roughly 99 feet. Standing timber shows when the level drops, and fish sit against it. A reservoir gives you a hard edge, a shelf, and not much else. Open occurrence data for the surrounding area lists largemouth bass, gizzard shad, striped bass, common carp and threadfin shad. It reflects what has been logged, which depends on who was looking. The shape of Lake Texoma decides where the fish sit.

• Seasonal Patterns

  On the long-term average, July reads 83°F and January reads 40°F. Fish stay active all year, but they move with the heat. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer squeezes it into the edges of the day. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. On Lake Texoma the same rules apply, with local timing.

• Tackle & Baits

  Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Mapping shows a ramp about half a mile from the shore. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass.
