Damp, showery conditions today, with a whisper of wind from the WNW and the barometer on the way down. On Pleasant Lake, work any hard bottom among the soft first. The best of it runs afternoon into evening. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

In New York, Pleasant Lake falls inside Fulton County. It sits at 1,634 feet above sea level. Roughly 257 acres of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. The bank runs about 2.6 miles all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. On our Fulton County list it sits near the top for size. Dolgeville sits 11 miles from the bank. Albany is the closest city, 57 miles away. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name brown trout, brook trout, white sucker, brown bullhead and tessellated darter. The county list is broader than any single water. On Pleasant Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Seasonal averages run from 16°F in January up to 66°F in July. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near mid April. Ice usually gives way near mid April, and forms again about early December. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Time your trip to Pleasant Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Our records carry no access rule either way. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Ayers Lake is 1.1 miles distant. Rules at Pleasant Lake are worth checking on the day.
