Cloud coming and going through the night, with calm air over the water and a rising glass. Activity on Sioux Lake should centre on the first drop-off and weed lines. Expect the better fishing from morning through afternoon. Give the likely spots time before moving. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Sioux Lake is a Meeker County water, Minnesota side. It sits in mixed forest. Roughly 395 acres of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. At about 4.9 miles of edge, most people work one arm at a time. On our Meeker County list it sits near the top for size. Litchfield lies 8 miles from the water. Then Dassel, 8.7 miles, and Hutchinson, 10 miles. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Meeker County include largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike, common carp and bluegill. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Take Sioux Lake a stretch at a time.
On the long-term average, July reads 72°F and January reads 11°F. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early April until roughly late November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. It sets the rhythm of the year at Sioux Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Greenleaf Lake sits 0.7 miles off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Sioux Lake before loading the car.
