Thin cloud passing over the water tonight, with a gentle ripple from the NW and pressure going nowhere. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Mud Lake. The evening is where the day comes good. Change depth before you change anything else. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Night
Mud Lake is a Meeker County water, Minnesota side. The setting is lake country bush on every side. It measures about 79 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The edge runs 1.4 miles or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The closest town, Litchfield, is 7.4 miles away. Dassel is 13 miles away, with Hutchinson at 13 miles. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike, common carp and bluegill. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Mud Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
On the long-term average, July reads 72°F and January reads 11°F. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Winter locks it down, and early April brings it back. From about early April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Mud Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lake Minnie-Belle at 1.5 miles is the sensible second choice. Check the position at Mud Lake before loading the car.
