Broken cloud and shifting light today, with a soft SW wind as pressure slides. Fish at Pea Lake should hold close to the first drop-off and weed lines. A broad window opens from night into morning. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Pea Lake is one of the Thunder Bay District listings for Ontario. It sits in rolling bush country. It covers about 5 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Thunder Bay District. Grand Marais at 33 km is the nearest place to stop. Neebing is 60 km away, with Parkdale at 77 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Thunder Bay District cover cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Anyone new to Pea Lake should walk it once before setting up.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -15°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Pea Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A light spinning outfit with a small box of lures and some bait covers most of what swims here. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Puff Lake, 1.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Pea Lake carry more weight than any list.
