A wet system passing over today, with a light chop building from the SSE and the barometer on the way down. The fish at Long Lake are likely to sit near the weed line and any gaps in it. The day fishes best from the day. Pick two or three spots and rotate them. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Long Lake in the Thunder Bay District part of Ontario. Elevation runs to 512 metres. At about 61 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The whole outline is near 3.1 km, and most of it is walkable. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. 36 km away sits Grand Marais, the nearest town. After that come Neebing at 56 km and Parkdale at 73 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Public occurrence data for Thunder Bay District names cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Fish Long Lake to its features, not to its size.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -15°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Long Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. A campsite is mapped about 910 m away, which makes an early start easier. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Should this one be busy, Gadwall Lake is 1 km off. Rules at Long Lake are worth checking on the day.
