A broken sky giving spells of shade, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW and pressure easing off. On Little Cascade Lake, work the seam between weed and open water first. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Little Cascade Lake sits in Cook County, out in Minnesota. The surface lies 1,785 feet up. At 260 acres this is proper open water rather than a pond. Shoreline length is close to 4.1 miles, and each section fishes a little differently. It is among the larger waters listed here for Cook County. Grand Marais sits 16 miles from the bank. Silver Bay is 48 miles away, with Ely at 56 miles. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Recorded soundings reach about 10 feet at the deepest point. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name white sucker, yellow perch and northern pike. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. The near bank of Little Cascade Lake is often the one people ignore.
Climate normals give 63°F for July and 6°F for January. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. From about late April to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Plan around that when you fish Little Cascade Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. The nearest alternative is Jock Mock Lake, 0.8 miles out. Where Little Cascade Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
