Flat light and a covered sky today, with a busy ESE wind on the open water and pressure easing off. Expect most activity at Lake Maud around the margins and the shelf beyond them. A grinding day likely, with the night worth the effort if any is. Save the long walk for a better forecast.

Out in Becker County, Minnesota, sits Lake Maud. The surroundings are lake country bush. At some 508 acres it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. The shoreline runs about 4.0 miles, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. It is among the larger waters listed here for Becker County. For supplies, Detroit Lakes is 8.1 miles out. Then Pelican Rapids, 13 miles, and Frazee, 13 miles. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
Depth records show about 34 feet at the bottom of the basin. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Public occurrence data for Becker County names bluegill, largemouth bass and walleye. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Lake Maud gives up more to patience than to distance.
Climate records put July near 69°F and January near 5°F. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around late November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Lake Maud runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. A boat ramp sits about half a mile from the water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Fish Lake, 0.8 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Lake Maud should be assumed from this page alone.
