Drifting cloud with clear gaps tonight, with a busy NE wind on the open water with the glass holding level. Start the search at Grass Lake along the weed line and any gaps in it. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

The Polk County entry here is Grass Lake, in Florida. Elevation runs to 144 feet. At roughly 9 acres, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. On size it sits at the modest end of our Polk County list. Lake Alfred is the closest town at 1.4 miles. It is 14 miles to Lakeland, the nearest city. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Nearby survey and observation records mention black crappie, bluegill, bowfin and threadfin shad. Records come from public data, not from a stocking programme. At Grass Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
July runs about 82°F on average, January about 60°F. Cold never becomes a factor on this one. Late winter and spring fish steadiest here. Late winter often fishes better here than midsummer does. Grass Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out. The week either side of a change of season often fishes hardest.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Public data records a pier about half a mile out. Twin Lakes Park runs up to the bank here, which usually means extra restrictions. Bluegill and other panfish take small jigs or worms under a float near any cover. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lake Swoope sits 0.7 miles off and takes the overflow. For Grass Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
