A clear night sky over the water, with a light SW breeze with the glass holding level. Whatever swims in Faraud Lake should be near structure within a cast of the bank. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cold hands, careful casts: precision is everything today.

Faraud Lake is set in Stony Rapids, Saskatchewan. It stands 419 metres above sea level. At roughly 21.03 sq km it ranks among the larger waters in the region. There is roughly 89 km of bank, and each arm behaves like its own water. On our Stony Rapids list it sits near the top for size. For a base, Fort Smith sits 381 km out. Then Buffalo Narrows, 480 km, and Fort McMurray, 502 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Survey and observation records for Stony Rapids include cisco, northern pike, round whitefish, lake chub and slimy sculpin. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Read Faraud Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The range across the year is -27°C to 14°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Ice-out usually falls in late May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. From about late May to around late October, expect open water on the long-run figures. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Faraud Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Failing this one, try Robins Lake, 7.9 km away. Treat Faraud Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
