Flat light and a covered sky today, with the surface near flat with the glass holding level. Fish at Lac Vitray should hold close to the seam between weed and open water. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Vitray is one of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue waters in Quebec. It sits in pine and birch. With some 25 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 2.9 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Notre-Dame-du-Lac lies 98 km from the water. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 247 km away. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Fish documented in Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Lac Vitray the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
The warmest month averages 17°C, the coldest about -15°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Lac Vitray the same rules apply, with local timing.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. For a change of water, Lac Munro is 1.7 km distant. Rules at Lac Vitray are worth checking on the day.
