Overcast skies today, with a useful S wind pushing food about with the glass holding level. Fish at Lac Vase should hold close to shallow cover and weed edges. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Night
In Quebec, Lac Vase falls inside Laurentides. Elevation runs to 449 metres. At about 15 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The bank runs about 1.8 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Some 44 km away sits Rivière-Rouge, the nearest settlement. Manawan lies 54 km off, Ferme-Neuve another 54 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Fish documented in Laurentides include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac Vase that means starting tight and working out.
The seasonal spread runs -16°C to 17°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Expect Lac Vase to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lac Pou at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Vase for certain.
