Soft grey light all day today, with a proper ripple driven from the S with a settled glass. Fish at Lac Jacob should hold close to inflow corners and shaded margins. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Jacob belongs to Laurentides, Quebec. Around the bank it is taiga. Surface area runs to about 6 hectares — small enough to read in one session. The town to know is Rivière-Rouge, 47 km out. Manawan is 52 km away, with Ferme-Neuve at 53 km. Nearby, in order: Lac Mariette 0.8 km away, Lac Sailly the better part of 1.3 km, Lac Marcelle 2.2 km away, Lac Laforte the better part of 2.3 km and Lac Clos 2.7 km away. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Laurentides records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass among the fish reported. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Work Lac Jacob in sections rather than trying to cover it.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -16°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. At Lac Jacob the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Mariette at 0.8 km is the sensible second choice. The position on Lac Jacob is worth confirming on the day.
