A closed sky with even light today, with a faint S drift and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac Valines along any hard bottom among the soft. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Valines is a Nord-du-Québec water, Quebec side. This is northern bush country. Small at around 9 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Our Nord-du-Québec list holds plenty of bigger water. The nearest town is Chibougamau, 59 km away. Saguenay is the closest city, 235 km away. Also on the doorstep: Lac Aspet out at 0.4 km, Lac Briec a touch under 1.1 km, Lac Texier out at 1.4 km, Lac de l'Echine a touch under 2 km and Lac Caen out at 2.7 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Survey and observation records for Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac Valines the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. The season on Lac Valines follows the weather closely.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Lac Aspet is 0.4 km distant. Confirm access to Lac Valines locally before you travel.
