Fresh rain topping the water up today, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface and the barometer holding steady. Expect most activity at Lac Valida around the seam between weed and open water. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Outaouais entry here is Lac Valida, in Quebec. The surface lies 272 metres up. At 9 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Nearest town is Deep River, 46 km off. Gatineau is the closest city, 156 km away. Round about: Lac Stonehouse (1.1 km), Lac Monette a touch under 1.9 km, Lac John-David (2.2 km), Lac Mille-Fleurs a touch under 2.6 km and Lac Poulin (2.9 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Outaouais list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. At Lac Valida the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Long-run averages give July about 18°C and January about -14°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Valida.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Failing this one, try Lac Stonehouse, 1.1 km away. Signs at Lac Valida carry more weight than any list.
