A grey, even sky over the water, with a faint SSW drift with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Lac Stonehouse should come off the calm side of the wind. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Outaouais end of Quebec holds Lac Stonehouse. Elevation runs to 266 metres. About 8 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. 45 km away sits Deep River, the nearest town. It is 156 km to Gatineau, the nearest city. Neighbouring water: Lac Valida after 1.1 km, Lac Monette a shade over 1.4 km, Lac Forant after 2.7 km, Lac John-David a shade over 3 km and Lac Mille-Fleurs after 3 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Outaouais: pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. The shape of Lac Stonehouse decides where the fish sit.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -14°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Lac Stonehouse more years than not.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Valida, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Lac Stonehouse.
