Wet weather working through today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW and pressure sitting still. Expect most activity at Lac Turgis around windblown banks where food collects. Not a day the forecast likes; the evening keeps a flicker of interest. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Lac Turgis sits in Nord-du-Québec, out in Quebec. Elevation runs to 356 metres. About 3.25 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. The shoreline runs about 17 km, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. Chapais lies 53 km from the water. Saguenay sits 362 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Across Nord-du-Québec, recorded fish include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac Turgis a short move beats a long cast.
Seasonal averages run from -20°C in January up to 16°C in July. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Lac Turgis fishes to that pattern most years.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Kiwi at 5.2 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Lac Turgis before loading the car.
