Rain moving through today, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Lac du Poudingue should be near shallow cover and weed edges. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

You will find Lac du Poudingue in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. It sits at 367 metres above sea level. At about 54 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. There is roughly 5.4 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Chapais lies 43 km from the water. Chibougamau is 60 km and Waswanipi 85 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Records held for Nord-du-Québec cover Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Treat Lac du Poudingue as a water to read rather than to cover.
The seasonal spread runs -20°C to 16°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lac du Poudingue fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac aux Bleuets sits 3.5 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Lac du Poudingue before loading the car.
