An even grey lid over the water, with a busy WSW wind on the open water and no real change in pressure. Fish at Lac de la Chaleur should hold close to windblown banks where food collects. The strongest window runs from morning through afternoon. Stay mobile and follow the activity. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac de la Chaleur stands in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. It stands 353 metres above sea level. Roughly 4.25 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. Shoreline length is close to 15 km, and each section fishes a little differently. For supplies, Chapais is 29 km out. Chibougamau is 54 km away, with Waswanipi at 80 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Nord-du-Québec records list Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish among the fish reported. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At Lac de la Chaleur the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -20°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan any trip to Lac de la Chaleur around it.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Lac la Botte is 2.7 km distant. Ask locally about Lac de la Chaleur if anything is unclear.
