Dull, settled light over the water, with calm air over the water and steady pressure. Most of the action on Lac Testard should come off any hard bottom among the soft. A grinding day likely, with the evening worth the effort if any is. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Quebec holds Lac Testard, in Nord-du-Québec. The water sits 252 metres up. About 1.26 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. At about 5.2 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. Nearest town is Matagami, 46 km off. Greater Sudbury sits 452 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. The county list is broader than any single water. On Lac Testard the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-run averages give July about 17°C and January about -19°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. At Lac Testard the season follows that pattern closely.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Gabriel, 1.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac Testard, the notice at the access point is the final word.
