An even grey lid over the water, with hardly a ripple anywhere with a settled glass. Lac du Tast should fish best around the calm side of the wind today. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Nord-du-Québec, Quebec, is where Lac du Tast sits. It sits at 254 metres above sea level. At roughly 14.50 sq km it ranks among the larger waters in the region. The shoreline runs about 22 km, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. It is among the larger waters listed here for Nord-du-Québec. The nearest place of any size is Matagami, 64 km away. Waskaganish is 154 km away, with Lebel-sur-Quévillon at 154 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Lac du Tast the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -19°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac du Tast.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Should this one be busy, Lac Boissonnault is 3.6 km off. None of that is settled for Lac du Tast in what we hold.
