Heavy overcast holding through the day, with steady pressure of wind from the SSW and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Lac Swamp should centre on the first drop-off and weed lines. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one.

Lac Swamp sits within Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec. The ground round it is northern bush. With some 47 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Around 5.6 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. On our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list it sits near the top for size. Nearest place of any size is Leblanc, 67 km away. Weymontachie lies 78 km off, Normandin another 82 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lac Swamp the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -18°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Lac Swamp more years than not.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac de Roches at 1.4 km is the sensible second choice. The position on Lac Swamp is worth confirming on the day.
