Soft grey light all day today, with a faint SSE drift and pressure sitting still. Activity on Lac Steve should centre on bays that hold the day's warmth. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Look for Lac Steve in the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean part of Quebec. Beyond the shoreline you have northern bush. This is a pocket water of some 7 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. Pont Rouge is the closest place, 185 km off. Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc lies 186 km off, Labrecque another 187 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The shape of Lac Steve decides where the fish sit.
The range across the year is -20°C to 15°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid May. Break-up sits around mid May on average, with the water closing again about early November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Lac Steve rarely departs from it.
Access is not recorded for this water. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Failing this one, try Lac de la Tornade, 0.7 km away. The position on Lac Steve is worth confirming on the day.
