A grey, even sky over the water, with a faint SSE drift and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Lac Canot should come off the calm side of the wind. If you must go, go in the evening. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

You will find Lac Canot in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The land about it is spruce and muskeg. Surface area runs to about 4 hectares — small enough to read in one session. It sits higher than most water we list in Quebec. Head to Pont Rouge, 185 km away, for anything you forgot. The big place round here is Saguenay, 204 km distant. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. County-wide records name northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Anyone new to Lac Canot should walk it once before setting up.
In an average year July sits at 15°C and January at -21°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid May. Ice usually gives way near mid May, and forms again about early November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Lac Canot runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Lac de la Tornade is 1.2 km distant. None of that is settled for Lac Canot in what we hold.
