Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with dead-still conditions with the glass holding level. Activity on Lac Shako should centre on inflow corners and shaded margins. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Night
Morning
You will find Lac Shako in Mauricie, Quebec. The bank is 470 metres above sea level. Roughly 12 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. With about 1.4 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. For supplies, Leblanc is 15 km out. Weymontachie lies 50 km off, Manawan another 119 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Mauricie, recorded fish include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Lac Shako the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -17°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. The season on Lac Shako rarely departs from it.
Access is not recorded for this water. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Failing this one, try Lac Obi, 1.2 km away. Rules at Lac Shako are worth checking on the day.
