A closed sky with even light today, with almost no wind to speak of and steady pressure. The water to cover at Lac Peter is the shaded margin through bright spells. The night is where the day comes good. Make the first hour count and build on it. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Look for Lac Peter in the Mauricie part of Quebec. Elevation runs to 431 metres. This is sizeable water at about 1.43 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. The perimeter runs near 8.6 km, so plan the walk before you start. On our Mauricie list it sits near the top for size. The nearest place of any size is Leblanc, 11 km away. Weymontachie is 49 km and Manawan 114 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout and walleye among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Treat Lac Peter as a water to read rather than to cover.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Anyone fishing Lac Peter regularly works to that calendar.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Lac du Moineau, 1.5 km away. Where Lac Peter is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
