Look for Lac Scorpion in the Nord-du-Québec part of Quebec. It lies 345 metres above sea level. At about 66 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Shoreline length is close to 6.5 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Chapais at 28 km is the nearest place to stop. Chibougamau lies 61 km off, Waswanipi another 70 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Public occurrence data for Nord-du-Québec names Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. At Lac Scorpion the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
On the long-term average, July reads 16°C and January reads -19°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. At Lac Scorpion the season follows that pattern closely.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. The nearest alternative is Lac Clevis, 1.9 km out. Treat access at Lac Scorpion as something to verify.
