A rainy spell sitting over the area, with light air out of the S with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Lac Rouge should be near shallow cover and weed edges. The morning carries the best of the day. Ride the conditions while they last. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Rouge stands in Mauricie, Quebec. The sea is 37 km distant. Surface area is around 39 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The edge runs 3.0 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. On our Mauricie list it sits near the top for size. Head to Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, 12 km away, for anything you forgot. After that come Shawinigan at 26 km and Mandeville at 29 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Read Lac Rouge for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -14°C at the bottom of winter. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Plan any trip to Lac Rouge around it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The car has to stay 1.1 km away, which shapes how much tackle you bring. A jetty or pier is mapped about 1 km from here. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Bienvenue, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback.
