Showers crossing the water today, with light air out of the S with the barometer flat. Start the search at Lac Cailly along the margins and the shelf beyond them. The morning carries the best of the day. Ride the conditions while they last. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Quebec holds Lac Cailly, in Mauricie. The surface lies 292 metres up. At about 47 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. There is roughly 5.6 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Size puts it in the front rank of our Mauricie list. Saint-Élie-de-Caxton sits 15 km from here and is the nearest stop. The nearest city of size is Trois-Rivières, 50 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Lac Cailly the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -14°C at the bottom of winter. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. The water is typically free of ice between late April and late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Lac Cailly fishes to that pattern most years.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Lac Brule, 1.5 km away. What applies at Lac Cailly may have changed since it was mapped.
