Fresh rain topping the water up today, with a soft SSE wind with the barometer flat. On Lac Roland, work shallow cover and weed edges first. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean end of Quebec holds Lac Roland. Elevation runs to 272 metres. Surface area runs to about 8 hectares — small enough to read in one session. For supplies, L'Ascension-de-Notre-Seigneur is 39 km out. Saguenay sits 75 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. The shape of Lac Roland rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -19°C for January. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. The season on Lac Roland follows the weather closely.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Benoit at 0.5 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Lac Roland carry more weight than any list.
