An even grey lid over the water, with a soft SW wind with the glass holding level. Give the shaded margin through bright spells the first hour at Lac Quesnel. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Night
Lac Quesnel is a Lanaudière water, Quebec side. The setting is rolling bush. Roughly 37 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The edge runs 4.4 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Few waters listed in Lanaudière are bigger. The nearest town is Mandeville, 13 km away. After that come Saint-Gabriel at 14 km and Saint-Jean-de-Matha at 17 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Fish documented in Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Lac Quesnel gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -14°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Lac Quesnel runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac Lafreniere sits 1 km off and takes the overflow. Where Lac Quesnel is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
