A grey, even sky over the water, with a useful S wind pushing food about and the barometer holding steady. The fish at Lac Quentin are likely to sit near any hard bottom among the soft. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Quentin is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean waters in Quebec. The country round it is northern bush from end to end. The water measures roughly 5 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. Métabetchouan sits 38 km from the bank. It is 105 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac Quentin gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Between January at about -17°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Expect Lac Quentin to follow that timing.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Petit lac a Truite at 1.8 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Quentin for certain.
