Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a busy SSW wind on the open water with the glass holding level. Start the search at Lac Alma along the seam between weed and open water. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Alma is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, Quebec side. It lies 398 metres above sea level. The water measures roughly 4 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. Supplies mean a trip to Métabetchouan, 41 km off. It is 109 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. What else is close: Lac Ferland 1.2 km away, Lac Mende at about 1.9 km, Lac du Brule 2 km away, Lac Georges at about 2 km and Lac Emeraude 2.1 km away. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Public occurrence data for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean names northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Lac Alma to its features, not to its size.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 17°C, while January sits near -17°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. That is the shape of the year on Lac Alma.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. If the gate is shut, Lac Ferland at 1.2 km is the nearest alternative. Signs at Lac Alma carry more weight than any list.
