A grey, even sky over the water, with stillness over the whole water with the barometer flat. Lac Quenouille should fish best around the shallows early and the drop later today. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

The Outaouais entry here is Lac Quenouille, in Quebec. Land around it is pine and birch. With some 59 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. With about 3.9 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. On our Outaouais list it sits near the top for size. Saint-Raphaël sits 28 km from here and is the nearest stop. Wakefield lies 38 km off, Maniwaki another 43 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Outaouais cover pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Read Lac Quenouille for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Seasonal averages run from -13°C in January up to 19°C in July. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to early December. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Lac Quenouille fishes to that pattern most years.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. None of that is settled for Lac Quenouille in what we hold.
