Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a faint SSW drift and pressure sitting still. Fish at Lac Probe should hold close to any hard bottom among the soft. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Night
Look for Lac Probe in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 459 metres. Roughly 12 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The whole outline is near 2.2 km, and most of it is walkable. You are 108 km from Senneterre. Gatineau sits 279 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Across Abitibi-Témiscamingue, recorded fish include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Lac Probe the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Averages move between -18°C in January and 16°C in July. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. That shapes the year on Lac Probe.
We hold no note on access for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. For a change of water, Lac Sap is 1.4 km distant. Where Lac Probe is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
