No direct sun expected today, with a decent SSW wind working the banks and pressure going nowhere. On Lac Pilon, work structure within a cast of the bank first. The night carries the best of the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Quebec holds Lac Pilon, in Outaouais. The surface lies 294 metres up. Surface area runs to about 3 hectares — small enough to read in one session. Our Outaouais list holds plenty of bigger water. Nearest town is Wakefield, 14 km off. After that come Val-des-Monts at 22 km and Cantley at 26 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Lac Pilon responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Averages here run 19°C at the top of summer and -13°C at the bottom of winter. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. The season between ice runs from about late April to early December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Lac Pilon more years than not.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. The nearest alternative is Lac Jim, 0.9 km out. None of that is settled for Lac Pilon in what we hold.
