A grey, even sky over the water, with air barely moving with the glass holding level. Activity on Lac Payrin should centre on windblown banks where food collects. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Quebec is where Lac Payrin sits. The country here is taiga. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list holds plenty of bigger water. Supplies mean a trip to Val-d'Or, 60 km off. Senneterre is 65 km and Barraute 79 km. Close by you have: Lac Donne 0.3 km off, Lac Orne (0.9 km), Lac Bastude 1.2 km off, Lac Barreau (1.4 km) and Lac Agami 1.5 km off. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Fish Lac Payrin to its features, not to its size.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -16°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. On Lac Payrin that shapes the whole year.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Donne, 0.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac Payrin before loading the car.
