Flat light and a covered sky today, with a mirror surface most of the day with a settled glass. Activity on Lac Donne should centre on structure within a cast of the bank. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Donne is an Abitibi-Témiscamingue water, Quebec side. Everything around it is northern bush. Surface area runs to about 4 hectares — small enough to read in one session. On size it sits at the modest end of our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list. For a base, Val-d'Or sits 60 km out. Beyond it, Senneterre at 65 km and Barraute at 79 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Survey and observation records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. The county list is broader than any single water. Lac Donne responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The seasonal spread runs -16°C to 17°C. Winter owns most of the year at this latitude. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Lac Donne runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Lac Payrin, 0.3 km away. None of that is settled for Lac Donne in what we hold.
