Rain moving through today, with a faint SSW drift and pressure going nowhere. Give the first drop-off and weed lines the first hour at Lac Payette. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Within Outaouais, Quebec, you have Lac Payette. The bank gives way to rolling bush. At about 36 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 3.1 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. It ranks high for size among our Outaouais listings. Start from Deep River, 38 km down the road. Further out sit Chalk River (45 km) and Petawawa (56 km). This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Outaouais cover pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Fish Lac Payette to its features, not to its size.
In an average year July sits at 18°C and January at -14°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. At Lac Payette the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Lac Blanc is 1.7 km distant. Treat Lac Payette as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
