An unsettled, stormy sky today, with next to no ripple and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac Pavin along reed fringes and open pockets. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Look for Lac Pavin in the Outaouais part of Quebec. Country round the bank runs to pine and birch. The water measures roughly 3 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. It is a small entry by Outaouais standards. Saint-Boniface lies 83 km from the water. Further out sit Maniwaki (93 km) and Saint-Raphaël (102 km). The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Lac Pavin a short move beats a long cast.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -17°C for January. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near late November in autumn. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Lac Pavin the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. There is a slipway on the shore, 1.2 km from the water we list. You can camp about 1.2 km away, going by the mapping. A toilet block sits 1.2 km away. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Lac Alsou, 1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Lac Pavin should be assumed from this page alone.
