Clear overhead with good moonlight, with hardly a ripple anywhere with a settled glass. Expect most activity at Lac Gayan around the first drop-off and weed lines. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Gayan lies in Outaouais, in Quebec. The surface lies 416 metres up. It runs to roughly 14 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Shoreline comes to about 1.9 km, small enough to learn in a day. Start from Saint-Boniface, 87 km down the road. Maniwaki follows at 96 km, then Saint-Raphaël at 105 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Survey and observation records for Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. The county list is broader than any single water. On Lac Gayan the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The warm month here averages 17°C; the cold one sits at -16°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly late November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Gayan.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Lac de l'Igloo is 0.8 km distant. Confirm access to Lac Gayan locally before you travel.
