Soft grey light all day today, with light air out of the S with the barometer flat. On Lac Pakwa, work points where shallow meets deep first. The night carries the best of the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Out in Mauricie, Quebec, sits Lac Pakwa. The setting is rolling bush on every side. At roughly 4 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Our Mauricie list holds plenty of bigger water. La Tuque is the closest place, 38 km off. Further out sit Laurentides (75 km) and Sainte-Thècle (78 km). No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. At Lac Pakwa the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -16°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Plan around that when you fish Lac Pakwa.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Lac du Collet at 1 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Lac Pakwa in what we hold.
